Frequently Asked Questions

Technology can be a confusing subject. Since we are a "web solutions" company, our services will definitely rely on a good deal of technology. While the most important aspect of our services is what it accomplishes for our clients, we think it is a good idea to sync up on a few terms so you feel more educated and confident in the process. This also helps weed out many other companies who make big promises with the "buzz words" but often provide little value to clients -- not to mention the stress and lost time.

We have provided a set of concepts, terms, and info here that are common to our services. If you have a question not covered here, we would love to hear about it so we can answer it for you and for those after you by placing it here. Please contact us by using this form or calling 866-396-4685.

  • What is Site Director?
Site Director™ is our name for the suite of services that form the core of our web solutions strategy. These services include the ability for the client to manage and syndicate their web site information, view updated analytics and statistics, send e-newsletters, and delegate tasks when appropriate. These services are enabled using software that runs in a web browser that we continually maintain and support.

  • Does Site Director require a technical staff to use?
This is a great question and points to a significant advantage over typical boxed software. Site Director is setup, managed, and supported by us so the only things required to use it are an account, a compatible web browser, and an Internet connection.

  • Do I need to install any software on my computer to use it?
Since Site Director runs within a web browser, as long as you are using a compatible version there is no software to install on your computer.

  • Are you guys a hosting company?
This is a good example of how some elements of technology can be confusing. The answer is no and yes. A hosting company provides space on a server connected to the Internet with a few other basic services and hands the controls over to the customer. This requires a good deal of technical know-how on the customer side in order to create, transfer, and organize the files in order to be seen by web users.

Our Software Subscription services include hosting as the basic means of getting information out to users. In addition to this basic service, there are many others such as Site Director that leverage hosting to bring significantly higher value and are accessible to a non-technical user. So, yes hosting is included in our subscription service.

  • How much does setting up a web site with you cost?
A web site is a complex integration of technology, creative design, behavior study, and marketing strategy. Given the amount of variables in just the design portion alone, understanding at least the goals of the web site is a minimum to come up with a reasonable estimate. The first step is our free assessment and goal discussion.

Glossary

  1. Boxed Software - Generic software that is available for purchase or download that is installed on a computer. This software is created for a mass-market audience and often requires significant configuration and support from an technical staff member.

  2. Web Browser - A software application that is installed on a computer for the purpose of visiting Internet web sites. We recommend the Mozilla Firefox Web Browser when using Site Director.

  3. Browser Based Software - Software that is delivered to the user and runs within a web browser. As opposed to Boxed Software that is its own local application on the computer, Browser Based Software is accessed by pointing your Web Browser to the location of the application.

  4. Software Subscription - Much like a magazine subscription where new issues are sent to you when available, a Software Subscription enables updated features and benefits to be delivered with the same convenience. This method of centralized software update avoids the technical challenge of manually updating the Boxed Software on any computer with an installation.

  5. Internet Connection - The ability to access the Internet and view web sites, check email, etc.

  6. On Demand - A buzz word that highlights the ability to use Browser Based Software from any location and at various times.

  7. Server - A computer that is connected to the Internet and is able to respond to requests by sending information to users over the Internet.
