Salesforce.com and True Collaboration
I attended an unveiling today of a new Incubator program that Salesforce.com is rolling out to its partners. Salesforce.com is a company that provides sales force automation, customer relationship management, and service and support applications, tools, and services all delivered through the browser in what is commonly called “Software As A Service” or SaaS (Sass) for short. Salesforce is now extending access to its myriad resources in operations, sales, marketing, and engineering to others who want to solve business problems leveraging the web browser as the common gateway.
A big gamble with big stakes indeed. We have been Salesforce.com customers for over five years as we also saw a short glimpse of the future and simplicity, innovation, and resource gains in the creation of our own service, Site Director, back in 1999.
What I think is most interesting about this new development at Salesforce.com is the high value and priority given to relationship. Not just any relationship, but proximity relationship - like in the room next door relationship! Salesforce.com prides itself on having worldwide reach with its services and support and allowing others to customize, tailor, and create new apps also from any location. But then they put their growth eggs into the localized incubator basket here in San Mateo, CA.
I think this is another truth many thought would disappear with the so-called “Internet Age”. Collaborative tools do exist as we have some in Site Director but replacing real warm bodied people who have ideas, suggestions, reactions, and talents is impossible.
I think this is a great move by Salesforce.com and our service model is based on relationship is well so we will continue to learn from others and you on how to better collaborate to see goals accomplished.
