In the earlier session, the air conditioning unit began to tire from the San Francisco heat. The crowd began to mentally debate relevance vs. perspiration as the staff turned the lights a bit lower to reduce the heat. Some sought the door and the water cooler but most of the about 200 remained to learn more about Search Marketing best practices while transforming brochures into marketing inspired fans to weather the heat.

This was the lead in to "Your Web Site: The Hub of Marketing," the last session before happy hour cocktails and the only general web marketing session at Dreamforce 2007. I was certainly a bit anxious. I was concerned that the room would become a sauna and that our session would either be moved or cancelled.

Once the previous session was complete, the room emptied quickly and the lights were further lowered. Gratefully, a line formed as only a 15 minute delay was the impact.

The session was a great success covering the three major elements of web marketing:

  • Acquiring web visitors and traffic
  • Measuring visitor behavior and goal performance
  • Converting visitors into buyers more effectively

I covered the first section and spoke about 6 aspects of the Internet landscape that make it totally discrete from other sales and marketing destinations:

  1. The Hyperlink/Bookmark
  2. Email
  3. 24/7 Availability
  4. Search
  5. Interation with non-web campaigns
  6. Syndication/Blogging/RSS

The marketing value of these aspects can very easily be overlooked as most have heard of them quite frequently, but mostly in mechanical terms rather than marketing.

You can watch the entire session on our blog, my section is first and lasts for about 11 minutes. I am also pleased to see our session ranked in the top 20 of all sessions on the Dreamforce 2007 Blog. Feel free to leave any questions you have on our blog.

I would love to speak on this and other web marketing topics for your event or group, whether in person or online, such as this recent Nationwide Alumni Webinar for MAP, a management development and consulting company serving clients nationwide.
